When I was younger I would always stay at the budget hotel chains when traveling to save money. I thought every middle class person I knew stayed at these places. Hotels like Marriott, Hilton, Westin and Doubletree were for the rich and business travelers.
I stayed at places like Red Roof Inn, Days Inn, Econo Lodge, Sleep Inn and Rodeway Inn.
Now it seems like these motels are full of rough looking customers and are unsafe, dirty and rundown, so I am forced to upgrade to hotels. What happened to these previously perfectly nice budget hotel chains?
