Besides sucking it up and paying insane prices for premium seats/lounge - what's your answer to travel days from hell? It is probably my biggest detractor for why I don't travel as much as I would.

3 months ago, I booked a 9 hr flight from Seattle to Paris, and then a 2 hr layover to get me into Italy.

Today, my flight from Seattle got delayed an hour, missed the layover so it will now be 4+ additional hrs before I get to Italy.

I received 22 euros of food credit for my trouble. And paid an extortionist amount for premium economy for one of the flight legs, which still isn't enough to get into a lounge.

The thing that's frustrating is that I had a lot of flight options 3 months ago but paid a premium for this particular flight, given how important it was to get into Italy by noon for an event.

Im now absolutely drained, and will be coming into a 24hr travel day, no sleep, and generally miserable.

I told my partner that going forward, it's direct flights only. Anything needing a connection - would be the next day.

Are there any other tips on how to manage long hauls with connections other than "suck it up?"

I can't imagine how much worse this could have been if I had 2 kids w me.
