How would you handle this hotel nightmare?

We are traveling and staying at a new hotel in a place we visit often - this weekend is a busy weekend and nearly every hotel room for miles is busy.

We check in and go to dinner. On the way back I notice a skunk on the street and we cross away from it before it gets anywhere near us. Our hotel is four blocks from where we spotted the skunk.

As we approach the hotel the air starts to reek more and more; it’s clear the skunk sprayed. It’s even worse once we get back to our room, that asshole might as well sprayed in there. I try calling the desk and the phone is off the hook. I try over and over for an hour before deciding to DM them on Instagram.

I finally get someone on the phone over an hour in and they are like, oh yeah, a guest’s dog was sprayed we will bring you some Glade. I am insistent we be moved, especially since the dog is apparently three dogs down from us and they didn’t kick these people out f the hotel. I have very severely reactions to fragrance.

So they bring the Glade and of course my eyes swell shut. And the room now just smells like fancy rotting anus. I am insistent they do something, they are like, I mean what can we do, even though we have a firm no dog policy these other guests already broke, we won’t kick them out.

To make things worse, when I was like, maybe I can try to sleep, I discovered the sheets were all covered in massive blood stains.

Right now, I have packed up my stuff rather than leave it in the stink to be permanently damaged, and I am sleeping in the backseat of my car (my husband is in the front seat sitting up and sleeping.) The nearest open hotel room is 45 miles away and on the other side of the US-Canada border.

Oh, and this hotel was charging us $450 USD a night.

What are my options here? I don’t want to go back - I know skunk smell doesn’t come out overnight (or even over a fortnight - they should have NEVER let that dog inside after) but there are literally no other open rooms; we would otherwise have to cancel our entire trip, including over $1000 in non-refundable theater tickets. And they are already saying they won’t refund the night wasted either. My guess is chargeback everything and see what lands?
