Long (7:45 h) layover at Beijing airport with two different visa holders - what to do?

Hey everybody!

Maybe somebody can help me since our situation is a bit special. We will have almost 8 hours layover from 9 am to 4 pm at Beijing PEK Airport.

Now i am a German citizen and qualify for the free 72 hours transit visa that i can apply for upon arrival (but apparently the waiting time is insane, approx 2 hours?) and my boyfriend is an Indian citizen who will already have his compulsory Transit-Visa in his passport.

Now the question is, what is there to do? What would you recommend?

I remember a trip approx 10 years ago when i had a long layover at Shanghai airport and it wasn’t great… no shops, no wifi. It was in the middle of the night (8 pm to 3 am) and i could not even get some warm food. Anyway, i am in no way saying it will be like back then in Shanghai but i would still like to know what we should expect and what you guys would recommend to do :))
