I flew from JFK to Berlin last month and wanted to make note of a few things that people have questions on. I figure the more up to date the response, the better.
- They are strict with carry on. They did not measure my size (and I was off by one inch) but they weighed it and I really struggled with trying to get everything in my bookbag. I saw one girl who had a big bookbag and she couldn't get it to fit in their bin so they charged her a carry - on. It just depends who you have, my person let me go with a few pounds over.
- I do think, if you are travelling with someone, you can have them hold a bunch of your stuff, get checked in, and then take the leftover stuff and shove it in your bag. They do not weigh you again.
- Before I flew, I read they don't offer bids for upgrades, but that's no longer true (if it was). I unfortunately had already bought my carry-on and a seat and the upgrade was $200 so I decided against it. At the airport, they were still trying to get rid of the seats though and they offered it for $200 minus the price I paid for the seat already and I took it. Ultimately, I lost out a little more than I should since a carry on is part of the upgrade. Regardless, it was totally worth it to book. The flight was packed and there were a ton of babies. In Premier, you get drinks, meals, and I had no one next to me. However, they are stingy with the drinks.
- They gave out water bottles but they collect bottles that are leftover. I didn't realize they would take it from the seat next to me that was empty, and when the flight was over, I asked for a bottle and they said no, they don't have enough. Um...ok?
- No wifi at all.
- Their food wasn't bad, I got the vegetarian option for dinner and it was great. However, for breakfast, they didn't offer vegetarian, so there's that.
Overall, I would be careful with the suitcase weight and if you can afford it, definitely take the upgrade. If you can afford the upgrade, then don't pay for anything extra when you are first booking your flight.
