As titled, I’ve been traveling abroad and upon my arrival at baggage claim abroad I couldnt find my luggage anywhere. Filed missing bag report to the airline, who was incredibly unresponsive until when I escalated it 1 week later. They soon got back to me and said an old lady [inserts some seemingly pathetic conditions regarding this lady] took it by mistake and in her possession has opened and disposed some of our items.
The airline then said I could talk to the lady directly and resolve the matter amongst ourselves, which I declined for a number of reasons. I wished to remain private and wished the airline would be the middle man retrieving our lugagge + compensation instead.
The airline went MIA again for a week while I continued to email them for updates…and got back to me saying any other preferred course of action other than directly resolving it with the other party will need to involve higher authority. I have no idea what that means. I just want my broken luggage back + compensation. The luggage contains all my clothes + gifts from home, and since I’m traveling abroad I had to rebuy all my clothes and things here and it caused me a great deal of stress and money lol.
What should I do? Is the airline being unreasonable or is it common protocol?
