I'm writing this at 3am after spending the last 7 hours trying to get on my flight. This happened on an easyjet flight, Porto-Bristol, flight EZY2876, scheduled the 28/10/23.
The flight was originally scheduled for 9pm. Due to unforseen circumstances, the flight got delayed 1h (as all flights of that day from that airport got pushed back 1h due to the issues happening first thing in the morning).
So at 10pm, I am at the gate and see the plane arriving, nice. Everyone 'boards' (as in, scans boarding passes and is moved to the waiting area), and then we are left there for 2h waiting to get in the plane.
Eventually we are communicated that 36 people will have to stay at the departure location, given that a member of the cabin crew couldn't fly back, so only a limited amount of passengers will be allowed on the flight. Another 1h30, and after a few people volunteer to stay, we are told to start boarding the plane. Just before the plane's door we were controlled again against our boarding pass, and some people were being told they could not board. We were not told what was the selection criteria.
Spent another couple of hours at the airport support desk sorting out hotel and a new flight, and was handed over a copy of the compensation policy. The alternative flight offered was to a different city, on a date two days away from when I was denied boarding.
This will make me lose work days.
What am I entitled to?
