Quitting hostels?!

When and why did you decide to stop staying in dorm rooms?

For me it was last night. I (27F) have been travelling solo pretty continuously for nearly 10 years. I do working holidays and seasonal work to fund my life and wouldn't have it any other way.

When I was 18 - 23 they were great, I loved partying, cheap rooms and meeting people from all over. I had been in some pretty sketchy hostel situations and that never deterred me. I've always hated inconsiderate people but knew that was hostel life.

Now at 27 I really can't hack the inconsiderate people anymore. I research hostels and usually pick the more expensive and "quiet" ones as I'm not a partier now, hoping to stay away from idiots but they are everywhere.

Last night we had doors slamming past midnight, people talking to themselves and playing videos out loud/notifications on loud and farting. Currently it is 7am and someone is talking on the phone. But the thing that topped it for me was the god awful smell of someone's feet. I cancelled my upcoming hostel stays and booked low key hotels. I can't get my head around people being so incredibly rude when people are sleeping anymore.

Travel has also changed massively for me being that I truly want to be alone now. I want to eat dinner alone as I enjoy my food more, wander alone, hike by myself and honestly just not engage in the usual hostel chats. So for me it really makes sense to quit hostels, travelling will be much more expensive as I'm alone but the peace of a private room is worth it. 5 years ago I would never have pictured me travelling this way, I thought I'd still be in dorms until my 50s!

I want to know when and why you decided to quit hostels?!
