Need advice - asking for myself and at least 9 other passengers
FRA sent us to the wrong gate, told us the flight was cancelled, and sent us on a 3 hour hike in the airport only to find out our flight was never cancelled and left without us after unloading our luggage. Airline refused responsibility, so who do we reach out to?
I arrived 2.5 hours early for a 3pm flight Friday to Toronto through Condor. Security and border check were full but I got to gate B43 at 1:30pm, as noted on my boarding pass. Both monitors at the gate blared red at the bottom, noting change to gate B46. Not untypical, so I didn’t question and headed over. The monitor read Lufthansa/Air Canada flight to Toronto at 3pm, so I asked the staff member at gate B46 to check my passport and boarding pass; he confirmed with a dated sticker.
At 2pm, an announcement at Gate B46 said that the 3pm flight to Toronto was cancelled due to a problem with the aircraft. Emails were to be automatically sent out for rebooking, but we should head to the Lufthansa Service Centre for help. The line at the Service Centre was very long, at least 80 of us waiting for news. 10mins in, they announced everyone with EU, US, and CAN passports need to go back out of security to the Hall B Service Centre. Doors were unlocked and we were ushered out.
After being refused at the Service Centre and told to go to the Lufthansa Check in counters instead, I joined the line with at least double the amount of people as before. Around 4:15pm, it was finally my turn. I watched the passenger ahead of me get yelled at for being in the wrong line because Condor is not affiliated with Lufthansa. My stomach turned. I was told the same and sent to the next Hall to the Condor Service Centre.
Everything changed when I got there. They told me, and the 6 other passengers there, the 3pm Condor flight was NOT cancelled. It flew from gate B43 as planned. There was a 1 hour delay because they had to unload checked luggage for people who never arrived. As such, they would not be taking responsibility because we all just missed the flight. Options were, pay 300-600 EUR for waiting list spot on the flight the next day or for a spot two days after. 8 people were already on the waiting list. 4 of us exchanged contacts just in case, but who should I reach out to? Is there any chance we can get reimbursed?
Thanks for reading this long post, appreciate any ideas and advice!
