Flight has an 8 hour delay - do I have to turn up to the airport?

Hi,

My flight due to take off at 6:15pm is now estimated at 1:40am.

The airport is 60 miles away, do I have to go to the airport or can I just ask to be put on the next flight tomorrow?

It’s going from the US to an EU country

I would call the airline, but they only have WhatsApp which is open until 8pm (GMT)
