Getting compensation for canceled LOT flight. But the reason for the cancellation was not mentioned. What can I do in this case? Do I go ahead and fill out the compensation claim?

Yesterday I had a scheduled flight from Sarajevo - Warsaw, and then from Warsaw to Copenhagen.

As soon as I landed in Warsaw and was about to catch my second flight, I got a text and email saying that the flight from Warsaw to Copenhagen was cancelled, but it mentioned no reason.

Only "we kindly inform that due to changes in the PLL LOT flight schedule, your flight has been cancelled. We apologize for this inconvenience. Our priority is to provide the possibility of quick and convenient changes in your booking, etc.... "

I went to the transfer center, and they offered me a reroute which I opted for. It took an additional two flights to reach my destination. Instead of arriving in Copenhagen at 18:50 (the flight originally booked), I arrived at 23:00. It was a pain, to say the least.

Accodring to EC 261/2004, I would be entitled to EUR 250 as the flight is less than 1500 kilometres; also the arrival time exceeds the scheduled arrival time of the flight originally booked by two hours (in respect of all flights of 1500 kilometres).

I want to fill out the compensation claim, but I know getting the compensation depends on the reason why the flights were cancelled/delayed. I noticed that the weather was fine that day in Warsaw, as I saw flights taking off.

Do I need to inquire about the reason for the cancellation, or do I just go ahead and fill out the form?

Never done this, any thoughts would be appreciated.
